Produced from 1999 to 2003, the BMW Z8 holds a place in popular culture that few cars ever have or ever will thanks to its use as James Bond's car in The World is Not Enough.

Designed as an homage to the 1956 BMW 507 the concept Z07 caused a sensation at the '97 Tokyo Auto Show where it was debuted. Spurred by the positive response garnered at the show BMW decided to put the Z07 into production in the form of the Z8, ultimately producing 5,703 cars. Designed by Henrik Fisker, any similarities between this car and Fisker's Fisker Karma are purely uncoincidental.

Sold at a price of $128,000, the car featured an all-aluminium chassis & body and used a 4.9L 32-valve V8 that developed 400hp and 500Nm of torque. The car is essentially front-mid-engined as the power unit is mounted behind the front axle to provide the car with perfect 50/50 weight distribution.

With a 0-60 time of 4.2 seconds and lateral grip at .92 the car was everything a sport focused BMW is expected to be. Car and Driver magazine tested the car exhaustively and found that it easily outperformed the contemporary benchmark Ferrari 360 Modena in acceleration, handling and braking.

Every car was shipped with a matching metal hard top and rear defroster, the design brief of which was to compliment the car from the outset which means the car is breath taking with either the hard top or no top. In an effort to promote the car to collectors BMW promised a 50-year stockpile of spare parts would be maintained to support the Z8 fleet which has meant the worries of owning the car are essentially zero thanks to easily available parts.

The car we are offering is the Alpina V8 Roadster, production of the Z8 finished in November of 2002 and gave way to the Alpina production in 2003. 555 units were built total and the car fulfilled a totally different role to that of the original Z8 thanks to a series of changes that saw the car focused towards Grand Touring rather than Racing. The original 6-Speed Manual gearbox and 4.9L engine were replaced with a 5-Speed Steptronic Automatic gearbox mated to a 4.8L Alpina tuned power unit from the E39 B10 V8 S. Relaxed suspension tuning was employed the make the car more compliant and the 18in Run Flat tyres were replaced with regular tyres with softer wide walls on 20in wheels. The new engined allowed an increased amount of torque to become available at far lower RPM which enabled more relaxed cruising. The top speed was also raised electronically from 250km/h to 259km/h.

Our example is a 2003 model finished in Black over Red with less than 14,000 miles from new. The car is sold complete with Handbooks, car cover, tyre kit, first aid kit, battery charger, tool kit and roof accessories and will be sold with a fresh Main Dealer service.
