Specification

The Ferrari 348 was Ferrari's replacement for the 328, and signified a stark transition in design style which would ultimately lead to the instantly recognisable shape of the legendary 355.

A mid-engined, rear-wheel driven V8 powerhouse; the 348 was the final mid-engined V8 developed by Enzo Ferrari before his death and the first commissioned to production posthumously.

The example we have for sale takes the form of the TS targa model with its removable hard top the car features a longitudinally mounted 3.4L V8 developing 300bhp which sends the power to the wheels via a transverse manual gearbox. This development was a significant change for Ferrari and was derived from their hugely successful 312-T Formula 1 race cars, with most previous small Ferraris using a transverse engine and a longitudinal gearbox.

Stylistically the car was inspired by a number of its predecessors including the side strakes from the Testarossa, the sloping nose inspired by the F40. The car was the final car designed by Leonardo Fioravanti who was famous for such designs as the F40, Daytona, 512BB, 288 GTO and the P5 & P6.

The 348 was fitted with dual-computer engine management using twin Bosch Motronic ECU's, double redundant  anti-lock brakes; as well as self-diagnosing air conditioning and heating systems.

The car was also chosen as the test mule for the Ferrari Enzo development programme, of which 3 were made.

The car on offer is, arguably, the most special example in existence outside the 3 Enzo mule cars. The car has covered only 337km from new, and sits in absolutely pristine, showroom fresh quality. The leatherwork on the seats is absolutely impeccable and the steering wheel quite literally looks like a set of hands has never touched it. Finished in Rosso Corsa over Nero the colour combination is an instant classic.

A true investment piece for the discerning collector.
