1987 Ferrari Testarossa 'Monodado' - Original UK car finished in Rosso over Nero. Recent full in-house recommission and fantastic ownership history.
The Ferrari Testarossa was the star of the 1984 Paris Motor Show, rivaling the Lamborghini Countach in terms of styling and performance and instantly becoming the poster-car of a generation. The design alone was a drastic change from the outgoing 512 BBi; not only was it a far more angular (and arguably more attractive) design, but also one of function.
In addition, the Testarossa was capable of 40% more power than its predecessor; 380bhp propelling the beautiful body to 60mph in less than 6 seconds and on to a top speed of 180mph. Such performance figures and capabilities form the purpose for one of the Testarossas most striking design features, the 'cheese grater' side strakes, keeping the car cool and stable at such speeds.
The interior also benefited from significant upgrades on the outgoing Boxer, mainly revolving around a greater finish and more space for both passengers and luggage, to allow this V12 supercar to also be used on Grand Tours in great comfort.
The car we are offering is a very special example of the Testarossa; a 1987 'Monodado' spec vehicle, which comes complete with the knock on wheels, that are so synonymous with 80s Ferraris, but were in fact only seen on relatively early Testarossas.
In addition, the car is an original UK-supplied RHD example, being delivered through Maranello Sales to Mr. B.A Simmons on 11/04/1987, as stated in the original service book that still complements the car. Finished in Rosso over Nero, this is probably the strongest colour combination for the car and being in the UK for all of its life, the ownership history is extremely thorough.
The vehicle was purchased by Mr. Hatton in 1990, before it was then owned by Mr. Leath in 1999. Mr. Leath subsequently sold the vehicle to Mrs. Brookes, who kept the car from 2004-2012, looking after the car diligently while in her and her husband's care. The car then moved onto Mr. Shaw in 2012 before being purchased by the current owner last year.
When purchasing the vehicle, the current owner decided to undertake a full recommission of the car at Joe Macari Servicing, leaving absolutely no expense spared to create the car we have today. Not only is this Testarossa one of the finest examples available on the market, it is also a rare knock-on wheel car, with fantastic provenance; a fantastic car to drive and own, but also a real investment opportunity.
