Description

Part of the Giulia Sprint GT range, the "Scalino" nickname - Italian for "little step" - refers to the step-front hood design that gave the car a unique look and aerodynamic flair. Designed by Bertone, the 1300 GT Junior Scalino featured clean, elegant lines, a lightweight two-door coupe body, and compact dimensions, making it agile and responsive. Powered by a 1.3-liter twin-cam engine producing around 89 horsepower, the 1300 Junior delivered spirited performance and sharp handling, making it a favourite among driving enthusiasts.

Aimed at younger buyers and racing aficionados, the 1300 GT Junior Scalino was celebrated for its race-inspired engineering, featuring disc brakes, a five-speed gearbox, and an excellent power-to-weight ratio. The car quickly gained popularity in motorsport, competing successfully in rallying and track events. Beyond its performance, the 1300 Junior exemplified Alfa Romeo's ability to blend style with accessible performance, earning it a dedicated fanbase that endures today. Its timeless design, engaging driving dynamics, and status as an icon of 1960s Italian motoring make the 1300 GT Junior Scalino a highly collectible and cherished model in Alfa Romeo's rich history.

The Certificato Di Origine held in the history file states that this left-hand drive example was produced in September 1967 and first sold to the Italian market. It is finished in Bianco Spino, a classic Alfa Romeo shade of white, over a Skai Nero vinyl interior with elegant wood trim. It sits today still wearing its original factory colours and has been fitted with a number of engaging upgrades including an Alfaholics fast road suspension kit and a 123 programmable distributor for an improved driving experience. It rides on Alfaholics GTA-style 14-inch wheels whilst the cabin features a two-spoke Bakelite steering wheel, a retro-look Caliber RMD 120BT stereo with Bluetooth USB and auxiliary inputs, as well as Veglia fuel and temperature gauges, manually operated windows, and embossed rubber floor mats.

Over £16,000 has been spent on the car since it was imported to the United Kingdom in late 2021 and it is ready to be enjoyed by its next custodian. Original 'Step-nose' or 'Scalino' GT Juniors are exceedingly desirable and are proof that you don't need much power to have fun. A four-cylinder twin-cam in a small, light, rear-wheel-drive coupé is enough to delight drivers of any skill level. Contact us now for more information or to arrange a viewing.
